HLT Temperature Compensating

Low temperatures typically reduce the pressure in a gas-charged lift support that is needed to lift and hold open liftgates on minivans and hatchbacks. To compensate for this problem, manufacturers typically charge these units with enough gas to operate at all temperatures. Unfortunately, this makes a liftgate or hatch hard to close in hot weather because the pressure in the lift support is so high.

The Stabilus HLT temperature-compensating lift support, however, is able to hold a liftgate of hatch open at low temperatures while allowing it to close easily at high temperatures. The key to this lift support’s operation is a thermally actuated valve contained within the unit. While temperatures are mild or hot, the lift support operates normally, as the internal valve remains open. As the temperatures cool down, the thermally actuated valve begins to close, giving the unit more hold-open ability. The HLT enables the lift support to hold a liftgate or hatch open during both hot and cold temperatures without making it hard to close.
